Let's talk about April in Tucson — because she does not disappoint.

Before the summer heat reminds us what we signed up for by living in the desert, April gives us this glorious sweet spot: warm days, golden light, and a city that actually wants to go outside. The saguaros are showing off. The jacarandas are doing their whole purple thing. And somehow the event calendar is absolutely stacked. Whether you want live music, mezcal, a fair, or just a good excuse to get out of the house — April delivers.

Here's what's happening around town this month. I pulled the good stuff.

CULTURAL & COMMUNITY EVENTS

Agave Heritage Festival | April 9–12 | Multiple venues across Tucson

Now in its 18th year, this is one of those events that makes you proud to live here. It's a four-day celebration of agave culture — the plant, the spirits, the people, and the cross-border heritage connecting Tucson to Sonora. Think tastings, lectures, a traditional agave pit roast at Mission Garden, film screenings, and a free community block at Jácome Plaza. Some events are free; others require tickets. A little something for everyone, no matter your relationship with mezcal. agaveheritagefestival.com

Pima County Fair | April 16–26 | Pima County Fairgrounds, 11300 S. Houghton Rd.

It's the fair. You know what it is. Rides, funnel cake, livestock barns, and live concerts on the Budweiser Stage. This year marks the 115th anniversary — which honestly feels very Tucson. General admission starts at $12 for adults, $8 for military/seniors, $6 for kids 6–10, and free for littles 5 and under.  pimacountyfair.com

LIVE MUSIC & PERFORMANCES

Tucson Folk Festival | April 10–12 | Jácome Plaza, Downtown Tucson | FREE

One of the biggest free folk festivals in the country, and it happens right here in our backyard. Three days, multiple outdoor stages, local Tucson musicians sharing the bill with regional and national acts. The kind of event you can wander through at your own pace. Grab a coffee, plant yourself somewhere shady, and let the music come to you.  tucsonfolkfest.org

Lists performers including Tom Rush, Jerron Paxton & Dennis Lichtman, Tow'rs, and others. More than 150 performances across six stages.

Back to the Future: The Musical | April 14–19 | Centennial Hall, 1020 E. University Blvd.

Great Scott. This Tony-nominated Broadway musical is hitting Tucson and honestly, if you need a reason to go, I don't know what to tell you. Winner of the 2022 Olivier Award for Best New Musical — Doc and Marty are coming to town and it sounds like it absolutely rips. Tickets available at the Centennial Hall box office.

OUTDOOR & NATURE ACTIVITIES

Agave Heritage Festival Resilient Desert and Food Systems + Plant Sale April 10 | Whistle Stop Depot 127 West 5th Street 10 AM-12:30 PM

This event brings together a mix of 2026 panel proposals and festival-curated adaptations, all centered on agave as a practical tool for regenerative agriculture in arid and semi-arid landscapes. Across the session, we look at how agave can support soil restoration, water-smart farming, and long-term resilience, grounded in ecological knowledge and place-based agricultural practice.  agaveheritagefestival.com
